Here's how to reprogram your car's engine immobilizer to program new keys in the invent of lost keys or a swapped ECU. The engine immobilizer is a security device. Use the information provided here in a legal and appropriate manner. The key is read by the computer and if it matches, it will enable all systems to start the car.

If the key does not match, the car will only crank but not start. While taking the car to a dealership or locksmith is an option, it could get expensive because you are at their mercy. When you insert the key, a coil near the ignition ring picks up the RFID signal from your key and sends it to an amplifier. The amplifier then decrypts it and sends it to the ECU.

If the key code matches the stored values, the engine will start. However its location under the dash means you will have to remove the entire dash pad. The procedure for reprogramming is similar, however you will have to short two wires on the OBDII port to perform a hand-shaking procedure between the ECUs to program new keys.

This is where you need to get a programmer to connect the chip to your PC. You can either buy a USB programmer from eBay or make your own to communicate to the serial port. The components required are fairly basic, three 4.

If you do have problems reading and writing from the chip, you have to short the crystal on the board. PonyProg, a free serial device programmer was the software used to read information from the serial port and "dump" the EEPROM's contents. First go to setup under options.

The content should appear as an array of HEX characters. Each key has a unique 8 digit HEX code. There are also bits to indicate key count, enable programming mode and valet lockout. After a lot of experimentation, it was observed that there are three distinct keys. Each key is an 8 digit HEX value, repeated three times.

It is split across two groups of four, but there is symmetry in their positioning within the dump. This must be zeroed as well. When reconnected to the car, the ECU will be in auto-programming mode and will accept new keys as per the procedure below:. Briefly insert any key into ignition lock cylinder and remove immediately. The security light should illuminate and remain on. The Security light may blink indicating it has accepted the key. After seconds remove the first key from the ignition.

Good day to all you Do It Yourselfers out there, and welcome to another How-To guide from the autoevolution team. Today we are going to talk about the pesky little panel clips. They come under a lot of different names and are broken up into different categories, but do basically the same job.

Panel clips usually work like drywall fasteners in that they expand to behind the panel to hold it in place. They are used to hold onto the door panels, on dashboards, some covers in the engine bay, body trim pieces and of course splash panels. Production lines use snap-in retainers to hold lighter pieces on because this solution is cheaper and less time-consuming.

However, broken clips can be a nightmare Using the right tool for the job is very important, since one broken clip can prove to be a nightmare to find on an older model.

You can use a dental pick, small key ring flattened outtiny allen wrench, paper clip, etc. The first step of the process is to pop open the upper and lower external locking brackets. You need to spread the tabs on the side apart to free up the ears, then pop open the upper and lower locking brackets.

Here is what the ears look like when the locking brackets are open. Next, you need to insert your pick tool of choice into the front of the connector. Each pin hole has an internal lock that locks the pin into place.

You need to insert your pick in between the pin and the lock, then pry the lock up, away from the pin. This frees up the pin and allows you to pull the pin out the back of the connector. Here are more pictures of the locks.

Re: ECU pinout. Houston, TX. Grand-Touring-Dan Sep 26, pm. What each pin on the ECU connector goes to. Good luck finding that.

I would get a hold of Toyota or TRD and ask for a diagram. Are there a few particular ones you are interested in identifying? There are a ton of wires going to the ECU, it would take forever to type out what each wire controles.

The only ECU pin-removal tools you'll ever need: straight and right-angle picks, Honda's own pin-removal tool, and a precision slot screwdriver.

Instr function in redshift

The pick tools you can buy anywhere, but the Honda ECU pin-removal tool and the precision slot screwdriver are special. If you are, use the part number listed above and order it from your local Honda dealer. The precision slot screwdriver is a must-have, though. In spite of its tool-steel construction, it can easily break.

The tabs are located toward the center of the plug and can be accessed through the opening between the upper and lower pins. A look inside of an OBD0 A plug's opening with its pins held in place by their respective retaining tabs, one of which you can see just above the pick tool. Slide the straight pick tool into any one of the A plug's openings and lift its corresponding retaining tab to release its pin.

Here you can see the opening in one of the A plug's pins that the tab held in place. The black B and C plugs are a little different. They use a much smaller pin, probably due to lower electrical current requirements.

Each side of an OBD0 B plug features a tab that must be released before its retaining lock can be removed. Here, an OBD0 B plug's tab is depressed to allow its retaining lock to be removed. Unlike other ECU plugs, here the tab is integrated onto the pin. The tool's finger protrusion contacts the tab, releasing the pin.

Slide the Honda ECU pin removal tool into the B plug, ensuring that the tool's finger protrusion is facing the pin that'll be removed, which in this case is on the plug's upper side.

The last step is to gently tug the wire and remove the pin from the plug. Unlock it by prying it up. With the lock flap opened, individual pins can be removed. Slide the precision slot screwdriver along the metal pin until you feel the plastic retaining tab.

There are both large and small pins in each plug, but the procedure is the same for both. Start by inserting the precision slot screwdriver into the front of the connector. Continue to slide the precision slot screwdriver into the opening until you feel the tab. If the wire and pin don't come out with a gentle tug, the tab is probably still engaging the pin.

The lock is a little different on this plug than any of the others. There are three levels of pins so the clip is internal within the connector. There are some small notches you can insert the pick tool into to lift the lock. When working with OBD2 plugs, start by prying the lock up using the right-angle pick tool. Once the lock is up, insert the precision slot screwdriver into the opening next to the pin until you feel the plastic retaining tab.

Old australian notes

Slide the precision slot screwdriver into the connector until you feel the retaining tab. While lifting the tab, gently pull the wire to remove the pin. Here it's free to be repurposed or removed. K-series and early J-series ECUs use this plug. The pins are smaller, though, and the plug a little more delicate.

With some practice you can do this without doing any damage to the plastic. Again, to unlock the connector, insert the right-angle pick into the small notches and gently pry up.

Be careful not to damage the plastic. The opening is barely 1 mm across.
